In the interest of real public education reform I feel the office of Delaware Secretary of Education should be an elected position not appointed.
It’s quite obvious that the governor has personal goals for education and pushes those personal goals on DOE and the backs of the local taxpayers.
Governor Minner does have passion for her goals for public education and the so-called Minner Reading and Math teachers are welcome. However, budget cuts may eliminate those teachers. The college SEED scholarship program has it merits but doesn’t have sustainable funding. I rather see greater state tax credits to offset college tuition. We have a serious problem at the middle school level fueling the dropout rate in the 9th grade. We need to put priorities on reducing the dropout rate and better preparing students for college.
