Darryl Scott. Please read items and understand them before you vote on things. Because of your obvious and careless lack of reading and comprehension, your 5th grade teacher now is rated ineffective and will be forced to panhandle at the Elkton Walmart. Additionally, the university she went to will be closing her degree program and now Jackie V can’t make $8 bazillion dollars a year. Maybe the General Assembly is just upset they haven’t gotten a piece of the millionare college president pie?

SB 51 had vocal and visible backing by DSEA, school superintendents, and DE colleges. I have heard ‘the reasons’ for this, however the unsubstantiated claim of those reasons do not sway many legislators. I saw no presence in Legislative Hall in opposition to SB 51 (for full disclosure I did not attend the Senate committee meeting, the Senate floor vote, nor the House Education committee meeting since I do not serve on that committee, and thus there may have been stakeholder testimony in opposition which I did not witness). I came into this issue late in the game, and there was only one team on the field. Please recognize that it is near impossible for the General Assembly to reject a bill given these circumstances.

Contrast that to the ‘Wilmington port deal’ bill, which was used as a contrast to SB 51 in a blog. Civic engagement was substantial for the port deal, and it was successful. Civic engagement was minimal for SB 51, and the results followed.

As they say, when the people lead, the leaders will follow.

He is certifiably in the tank for $$ interests.

It is getting hard to find credible independent articles on Common Core. You basically have to write them yourself.

To me, tantamount to gospel.

They call this upheaval the Common Core State (sic) Standards (CCSS) and there are two things to remember: The Common Core did not originate with the states and it is speculative and experimental–in a word, cuckoo. I use the (sic) in its title because putting the word “state” in there is a political move, a public relations ploy. Learning from President Bill Clinton’s failure to get the national test he wanted, corporate leaders and their political allies try to keep this school remake as distant from the White House as possible, insisting over and over that it’s a “grassroots initiative” –what the people asked for. Every time they say this, the press repeats it. The Common Core reality is about as far from Mom and apple pie as a zombie invasion.
