In all honesty, they should have intervened a long time ago. I feel so very sorry for all the kids involved. They are the ones that are going to be hurt the most by this scandalous situation. It’s almost like Lewis knows it’s going down, but it’s an easy income for her and her husband….so they thought anyway.
However, the ones that are really being hurt is the kids. As a family, we went to the meetings with Dave Jones at the U of DE the year before the school first opened in 2006. He put a lot of hard work into the school, and it was a good school the first couple of years. My son was there on opening day in 2006. At the time, we felt it was a good environment and we were so excited about the future.
I especially remember the sweet greetings that were always given to the kids by Mrs. Fields. She wouldn’t let the kids get away with anything, but she always disciplined in love. The kids (and parents loved her), and Lewis let her go to someone with a “name”….
Oh, what was and what could have been. Yes, the previous SL’s made mistakes, but nothing at all as vicious and cunning as the current SL. It is so sad that our state DOE and Governor have done nothing sooner to intervene and stop this madness.
I hope the current student’s parents are smart enough to move their kids out of there ASAP, and that they are wise enough to provide the emotional support that these kids are going to need.
Shame on our entire state DOE especially the Charter School Office and the Governor’s office for not stepping in sooner to end this madness. At the very least, provided accountability so that the checks and balances were there so that this did not happen.
Again, my heart goes out to all the kids and families involved.
