So, I was strolling through DEEDS today and searched for the credentials of the School Leader for Pencader, Ms. Ann Lewis. Here is what the public website, available here(http://bit.ly/KPmhaZ), reveals upon entering her name:
Degree School Major Received By DOE Doctorate Westfield University Organizational Leadership Master UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX Business 12/04/2008 Bachelor UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE Elementary Education 06/21/1985 Undergraduate-level Coursework MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY 10/05/1987 Graduate-level Coursework UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE 12/19/2008
People who know me, know I like to read and research things (I have read Dr. Lowery’s dissertation and Dr. Lyles’ dissertation as examples) so I went to ProQuest to search for Ms. Lewis’ doctoral dissertation here: http://dissexpress.umi.com/dxweb#search?. Needless to say, I struck out.
I then went looking for Westfield University to see if the dissertation was hosted locally there. As you navigate the site, you can find no portal for such a search. I then checked the internet registration of the website:

This is strange! So I then proceeded to send an e-mail to the registrar e-mail which was available on the website. Here’s that e-mail exchange:
Dear Westfield,
I am interested in your program. What do I need in order to apply to your programs?
Thanks,
John Young

Wouldn’t it be a good idea if Delaware DOE didn’t list credentials until after verified? How hard is it to acquired sealed transcripts? Markell has the executive power to make this change.
As far as Pencader, I see no charter school review meeting listed for Pencader and without, I can’t see how the state board can take action. I don’t think they’ll close Pencader but perhaps allow the Delaware Charter Schools Network to be a broker for new organization to takeover under an emergency provision. The only concern with Pencader would be low enrollment = financial viability.Nothing criminal going on!
Who said anything criminal was going on? As for fiscal viability, the taxpayers fo this state have a right to have our money shepherded with fidelity, and that included NOT have an unqualified 3rd party selected/brokered by the DE Charter Network??? Are you serious?
If the board is determined to be illegally composed, this could create an emergency for the DOE/SBOE to act on filling board seats.
WOW. When I have time later I will come back and digest this incredible post of yours, John. But then, why am I not surprised at the conclusions drawn here…..
If charter schools are corporations under Delaware Corporation Law who is the CEO of Pencader? Just say, if the school leader hand picks replacement board members to be approved by remaining loyal board members who really runs the corporation? If DOE / SBOE of education fills the board seats it will be with Rodel / DE Charter Network clones.
I find it kind of odd with Pencader still being on probation and new concerns with enrollment and board members leaving DE DOE hasn’t scheduled an emergency “public” charter school review meeting. Whatever DE DOE presents to the state board this month surely was something done in the dark.
Kilroy…to…your…rhetorical…question…in…your…first…comments…the answer is clearly the school leader is in control of everything…………………..
Who taught Mr. Lewis’ math class when he was dismissed? Was the person current on their state credentials for teaching his classes?
Sure it wasn’t the univeristy of westfield online? http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi323420697/
